How to clean a shisha?

Begin by disassembling all of the components. If you're short on time, haven't cleaned your hookah in a while, or prefer not to scrape too much, soak the various parts in the suggested water/baking soda/lemon solution overnight after disassembling. It will aid in the softening of any accumulated residue. You can watch our video here.

1. Disassemble. Before you begin cleaning, disconnect the hose from the shisha. Twist the hose from side to side until it is free of the base. If the hose becomes stuck, do not pull too hard because this will cause harm. Continue twisting it until it comes free.

It's critical to take notes on your pieces, especially the first time. You must recall what is connected to where and how. As a result, especially the first several times, divide your pieces into cleaning'groups' to avoid losing any parts or forgetting how to reassemble.

  • Remove the hose port grommet and the bowl from the top and underneath the grommet.

  • Take the tray and empty it of any residual ash.

  • Twist the shisha stem until it loosens at the base.

  • Set aside all of the parts and get ready to clean.

2. Clean the hose. Check to see if your hose can be washed.

First, blow through your hose to remove any lingering smoke. This should ideally be done after each use.

  • If it cannot be washed, grip both ends and smash it against a soft surface to remove any debris. Then hang it somewhere cool and dry.

  • Run the hose under the tap if it is washable. Place one end under running water and let the water to flow through the other. Allow the hose to dry completely before hanging it.

3. Clean your stem. Pour water through the stem or run water from the faucet.

  • Apply your cleaning solution with a brush. Brush back and forth until the entire length of the stem has been cleaned. This procedure should be repeated until the stem is entirely clean.

  • Run it under hot water. Check the hose port with your fingertips to ensure no debris has accumulated. Allow it to dry on a towel or against a wall.

4.Clean the base. Remove any old, stale water from the base. Then fill it with boiling water.

  • Rub inside the top with your fingertips, getting as far inside as you can.

  • Remove the water.

  • Scrub it with a soft bristle brush or sponge after adding your cleaning solution.

  • Pour in more hot water and shake the base while covering the opening with your palm. Pour out the water mix and repeat if it's highly stained and hasn't been cleaned in a long.

  • Allow it to cool for an hour or overnight.

  • Rinse it 2-3 times with hot water before letting it dry on a towel.

5. Clean the bowl. Remove any residue from the shisha bowl using a sponge or towel. Run your bowl under water while rubbing any caked-on tobacco off with your fingertips. The goal here is to get rid of any material that isn't caked on. When you've taken everything you can, place the bowl in a saucepan of water and bring it to a simmer. Allow to simmer for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from pot, rinse, remove any leftover debris, and set aside to dry.

6. Clean the other parts of shisha. Now, clean the grommets, release valve, and ashtray. Release the valve by running your tap over the grommets. Remove any unneeded waste with your fingers and a little pressure. If your ashtray just has loose ash, repeat the process. However, if there is caked on used shisha, clean it with hot water and steel wool. Allow to dry after rinsing.

Allow all of the components to completely dry.

Now that you know how to clean a shisha, you should do it on a frequent basis, ideally after each session.
