5. Most shisha users around the world enjoy shisha on occasion. According to a US study, 90 percent of shisha users use it only once a month, and the German Federal Risk Institute reports that the average consumer there has it twice a week on average.

7. Shisha is usually a social activity. It takes time and skill to prepare, and special equipment that is not easily portable is required. It is frequently consumed in specialised social settings.

An in-depth study of tobacco use conducted by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) of the United States of America revealed that shisha trails other tobacco products in youth use, trailing e-cigarettes, cigarettes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco. According to the CDC, 3.4 percent of high school students used hookah in the previous 30 days, compared to 27.5 percent who vaped.
